How HVAC UV lights work
A UV lamp is mounted inside the system near the coil. The light runs continuously and helps limit mold and bacteria growth on the surfaces it reaches. It pairs well with a duct cleaning: clean the system first, then help keep it that way.

Is an HVAC UV light worth it in San Antonio?
A UV light is a small germicidal lamp mounted inside the air handler, aimed at the evaporator coil. In San Antonio the coil stays wet from spring through fall because the AC runs almost nonstop, and a wet coil is where mold and bacteria take hold and where musty smells start. The lamp keeps that surface cleaner between service visits. It does not remove the dust already in your ducts, which is why we recommend it after a duct cleaning, not instead of one.

Questions we hear
Does a UV light replace duct cleaning?
No. A UV light helps keep the coil and air handler cleaner going forward; it does not remove the dust already sitting in the ducts. Most customers do both.
Where is the UV light installed?
Inside the air handler, aimed at the evaporator coil where moisture and biological growth build up.
How long does the bulb last?
Most bulbs are rated for about a year of continuous use. We can remind you when it is due.
Is it worth it in San Antonio?
