What changes the price?
- Number of HVAC systems. Two-story homes often have two systems, each with its own ducts, air handler and returns.
- Number of vents. Many companies charge per vent. We do not. Every cleaning includes unlimited vents.
- Access. Ducts in a tight attic or crawl space take longer to reach.
- How dirty the system is. Construction dust, pet hair or years without a cleaning mean more time on the job.
- Add-ons. Dryer vent cleaning, chimney cleaning, UV light installation or duct repair are priced separately unless they are part of a package.
What should a fair quote include?
Before you book, ask every company the same four questions:
- Is it every vent, or a set number? A low price that covers ten vents can double once the technician counts the rest.
- Do you clean under negative air pressure? A proper cleaning uses a powerful vacuum so loosened dust leaves the house instead of blowing into your rooms.
- Will I see the inside of my ducts? A camera inspection before and after shows what was there and proves it was removed.
- Is the price confirmed before work starts? You should never find out the total after the job is done.
How to spot a bait-and-switch
A low coupon is not a scam by itself. Ours is a real $49 price. The problem is a low price that turns into a big bill once someone is in your house. Watch for per-vent charges that were not mentioned on the phone, sudden "mold treatment" upsells with no photos, and pressure to decide on the spot. If a company will not show you what they found, keep your wallet closed.
Is the cheapest option worth it?
Only if it is the whole job, done right. A quick blow-out with a shop vac at the vent cover moves dust around and leaves the trunk lines untouched.
